Animal Wonders, Birding & Aviculture
Animal Wonders offers "Birding 101" through the Lee's Summit Parks & Recreation Department at Legacy Park in the Kansas City Metro. Classes are offered for all ages and we encourage families to participate. Classes are held during Spring & Fall migration with all data inputted on eBird. Class schedules are located on the events page. During all of our animal camps, bird counts take place with the data also submitted to eBird and posted on facebook each day. We also are now offering a birding option to the Girl Scout badge reguirements. If you are interesting in a birding trip with Animal Wonders outside of our scheduled classes, please let us know.
Please enjoy our gallery of birds below. Photos taken by Dan & Varick Cowell, 95% with a phone & scope, very, very far from National Geograpic quality, but still fun! Included on each page are external links to learn more about each species listed. While aviary & zoo birds don't qualify as "bird sightings", I am incuding them for educational purposes. Some of these are of species we've owned or worked with the past, a few from zoos we have visited. Be sure to e-mail if you have any questions - dan@animalwonders.net.

Aviculture & Zoo Birds
The beauty and genius of a work of art may be reconceived, though its first material expression be destroyed; a vanished harmony may yet again inspire the composer, but when the last individual of a race of living things breathes no more, another heaven and another earth must pass before such a one can be again. - William Beebe, 1906
Animal Wonders
We depend on our programs & donations to help fund the care and housing for our animals, most of which are either rescues or surrenders. We seem to be always taking in new animals that need a home or different situation, their care adds up. If you would like to help support Animal Wonders, it would be greatly appreciated. We are always in need of donations, caging material, lumber, crates, aquariums, straw, & newspapers.
